One Day Only X Call For Participants!
Rover
Dramawerks' highly anticipated 24-hour play festival, One Day
Only is back! The TENTH installment of "seven short plays
from concept to curtain in just one day" returns on June
30 at the Courtyard Theatre of Plano!
One
Day Only was first produced in the metroplex in May of 2000
by Audacity Productions. Rover Dramawerks teamed up with Audacity
for the next three festivals, and Rover went solo to present
One Day Only 5 through 9. All of these are productions unlike
anything ever done before, even by us! For this is an event
in which an entire one-act play festival of seven plays is written,
produced, directed, rehearsed, teched, and performed in a single
day. Just 24 hours.
At
about 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, a group of writers, directors,
actors, and technicians will get together for the first time.
A brief get-to-know you session will include providing ideas
for the writers (to be drawn out of a hat) and taking pictures
of the actors (no headshots and resumes are allowed). Then the
writers will stay at the theatre and work through the night,
composing a ten to fifteen minute play based on the subject
he/she drew.
At
6:30 a.m. (yes, THAT early!), the directors return. They will
quickly read the plays, decide who directs which play, and cast
the plays from the pictures taken the night before. The actors
show up around 8:00 a.m. and meet with their director and fellow
cast members. The writers go home to get some sleep while the
plays are blocked memorized, and rehearsed by the director and
actors.
Tech
rehearsal begins around 4:00 p.m. Then curtain is at 8:00 p.m.,
when all of the plays are presented for the first time at the
Courtyard Theatre of Plano. That's right - seven world premieres!
And
YOU can be a part!
Rover
Dramawerks is looking for a few good writers, directors, and
actors for One Day Only X, and we want YOU! Experience is not
mandatory, but open-mindedness, spontaneity, guts, and a can-do
attitude are MUSTS.
If
you're interested, please send e-mail to
odo-x@roverdramawerks.com
STARTING ON MONDAY, JUNE 11 AT 1:00 P.M.
Do
not try to sign up even a few minutes early
- you will be told to resend your request. Note that this procedure
is different from some ODOs in the past. No one will be allowed
to sign up early.
Include
the following information:
|
1.
Your name
2. E-mail address that you check on a regular basis
3. Your phone number(s)
4. What
role
you would like (writer, director, or actor)
5. If you have participated in past ODOs,
........which ones (example:
3, 4, 5, 9)
........what your roles have
been for each
........(example: actor for
3, writer for 4 and 9, ........director
for 5)
6. Where you heard about One Day Only X
|
The
last three are for informational purposes only and will not
have any effect on whether you get in or not - it really is
first come, first served!
Please
note that you can do ONLY ONE and you must specify
which - otherwise you will be listed as an alternate for those
roles. If you would consider more than one role, indicate which
is your preference and we will try to accommodate you with your
first choice - again, you will only be able to do one.
IMPORTANT:
If you are interested,
YOU must take the initiative to sign up yourself.
We will not accept sign-ups from third parties.
There
are 7 writer positions, 7 director positions, and about 40 actor
positions. This is first come, first served, so if you're interested,
be by your computer at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11! Writer
and director positions especially fill up VERY quickly - often
within MINUTES! The cut-off for signing up is a week before
the event or as long as roles are available, whichever comes
first.
Minimum
age requirement for any role is 15.
PLEASE
NOTE: Because the writer and director roles are
limited, we have a "no three in a row"
rule. This means if you have participated in the last two One
Day Only projects - One Day Only 8 and One Day Only 9 - as a
writer both times or as a director both times, you must choose
a different role for One Day Only X. For example, you might
try acting if you've been a writer twice. Branch out! Try something
new!
Also
note that due to the lightening-fast nature of this project,
there is no pay and no comps are provided. However, it is a
TOTAL BLAST and well worth your time. You'll also be amazed
at the contacts you'll make!
We
look forward to working with you on this incredibly fun, unique
project! For more information, check out www.roverdramawerks.com
or www.onedayonly.org.
PLEASE
NOTE: The performance on June 30 at 8:00 p.m. is OPEN TO THE
PUBLIC! Tickets are only $10, so even if you are not interested
in participating as an actor, writer, or director, we would
love to see you in the audience that night!
